What We Do
Solar
With increasing electricity prices, and a 30% federal tax credit now available to defray panel installation costs, rooftop solar is more affordable than ever. To learn more, contact the non-profit, Solar United Neighbors, which provides unbiased, non-pushy, free information: https://www.solarunitedneighbors.org/go-solar/want-to-install-solar/go-solar-on-your-own/.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity is a term describing the incredible variety and interactions of life on Earth; it is currently under threat from multiple sources. Our volunteer biodiversity group (GO Bio) meets monthly to consider ways to protect and restore our local natural habitats. By planting native plants, eliminating detrimental invasive species, and reducing chemical use in our yards and community spaces, we can better protect our native flora and fauna– including butterflies, birds, and fireflies.
Electric Vehicles
Drive Electric Dayton is a volunteer group of owners of electric cars, as well as people interested in learning about, or buying an electric vehicle (EV) in Dayton and southwest Ohio. The group’s mission is to help educate the EV-curious through ride and drive and other events. If driving electric is something you’d like to learn about, visit Drive Electric Dayton.
Recycling
Our new recycling team are finding inventive ways to reduce City waste going to landfill, whether it’s through volunteer shuttle runs to County styrofoam recycling events, fundraising for local charities in the collection of unserviceable electronics, ink cartridges, batteries or unserviceable holiday lights or establishing new Terracycle collections.
Homesteading
Lots of our members are interested in gardening and growing their own organic produce. The homesteaders enjoy sharing tips, plants and sourcing outlets. Whether it’s companion planting, permaculture for small gardens, or introducing vegetables into decorative beds, these folks are happy to share their garden, knowledge, crops.
