What We Do
Green Oakwood was formed by, and is comprised of residents in Oakwood, Ohio who are passionate about leaving a resilient, healthy, and vibrant community for future generations through sustainable practices. We work toward this mission through civic engagement, education, andsustainability efforts. We are 100% a volunteer-based organization.
Civic Engagement
From committee meetings to social gatherings, we create spaces to share ideas, educate each other, and facilitate action. We then engage with the city government and other organizations (schools, library, etc.) to effect positive change in our community.
Education
We strive to be the sustainability information hub for the Oakwood residents. We keep you in the know about informative webinars or in-person events that are happening in our neighborhood. Head over to the Resources section to find helpful tips on living more sustainably. You can also find us at the Oakwood Farmer’s Market to ask us questions.
Sustainability Efforts
Whether it’s organizing Styrofoam or Holiday lights collections, reducing waste at city events, or managing the Wright Memorial Public Library’s native plant garden, we are constantly looking for volunteers, and innovative ways to put our sustainability concepts into action. Join our mailing list to be notified of opportunities to support local sustainability initiatives, or make your own suggestions.

Activity Groups
Based on what was identified in the Committee meetings, activity-specific groups are formed. They may meet separately, and of course… work together to get things done!
Activities may be very much hands-on (recycling events, planting the library garden, etc.), or more social and educational (Native Garden Group).

Socials
We also have casual get-togethers for the members to make connections and learn from each other. Check out our calendars or come to our Committee meetings to stay updated about our next social event!
